Zac Taylor (born May 10, 1983 in Norman , Oklahoma ) is a former American football player and current coach. Since 2019 he has been Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL . Before that, he was already active as an assistant coach for several teams.

Career

Career as a player

Taylor began his career as a quarterback in his high school. After graduating from high school, he began playing for Wake Forrest University in Winston-Salem , North Carolina . There he could not assert himself in his first two years and moved to the Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas . With them he was able to celebrate successes and even reached the NJCAA Championship Game. He then moved to the University of Nebraska in 2005 , with which he had two relatively successful years and in 2005 won the Alamo Bowl.

In the NFL Draft 2007 Taylor was not selected, however, he still signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shortly thereafter . There he was released before the start of the season. He then signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL . With them he even reached the final of the Gray Cup , where they lost to the Saskatchewan Roughriders . Taylor did not appear in any game and ended his active career after the 2008 season.

Career as a coach

Taylor's coaching career began as a Graduate Assistant at Texas A&M University . In 2012 he became an assistant coach with the Miami Dolphins . In 2015 he even became interim offensive coordinator for a short time . Nevertheless, the Dolphins finished the season with 6 wins to 10 losses as the last of the AFC East . In 2016, Taylor became the University of Cincinnati Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach for one year . In 2017, Taylor joined the Los Angeles Rams under their new head coach, Sean McVay . From 2018 he became their quarterback coach. Taylor reached the Super Bowl with the Rams , but lost to the New England Patriots .

In 2019, Taylor became head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals . In his first season there were only 2 wins and 14 defeats, making the Bengals the worst team of the 2019 NFL season . This allowed them to vote in first place in the 2020 NFL Draft , they chose quarterback Joe Burrow from Louisiana State University .
