The Zahlbach is a one kilometer long right and southern tributary of the Mergbach .

The Zahlbach rises in the Vorderen Odenwald , southwest of Reichelsheim - Groß-Gumpen on the northeast slope of the Heidelberg ( 321.7 m above sea level ) near the junction of the state road L 3399 from the federal road 47 , the ( Nibelungenstrasse ).
It initially flows about 850 meters in an easterly direction through fields and meadows below the Gumpener Kreuz . Arrived at the southern edge of the village of Gumpen, the stream turns north and flows parallel to the B 38 (in the town of Kriemhildstraße ), cuts the Lindenfelser Weg on the western edge of Groß-Gumpen and flows into the Mergbach just above the first farmsteads of Ober-Klein-Gumpen .
