The Gumpener Kreuz is a pass in the Odenwald and refers to the field name cross in the Groß-Gumpen district of the Reichelsheim community in the Odenwaldkreis in Hesse .
Geographical location
The Gumpener Kreuz is a conveniently located 273 meter high mountain saddle in the Vorderen Odenwald southwest of Reichelsheim and north of Fürth. Here lies the lowest point of the watershed between the Gersprenz in the north and the Weschnitz in the south. The border between the Odenwaldkreis and the Bergstrasse district follows the ridge line of this watershed on both sides of the Gumpener Kreuz for a few kilometers. On the Krumbach side of the district boundary is the Gumpener Kreuz farm , where an inn is operated.
traffic
The Gumpener Kreuz is a traffic junction . Not only does Bundesstraße 38 use this crossing, which connects the Vorderen Odenwald with Darmstadt and Dieburg in the north and Weinheim in the south, but also reaches Bundesstraße 47 , known as Nibelungenstraße , coming from Worms and Bensheim in the west, from the Schönen Aussicht ( 447 m ) in a steady gradient over Lindenfels, the Gumpener Kreuz, to then split with the B 38 down the north ramp to Reichelsheim and into the Gersprenz lowland. Then it goes on over the Spreng to Michelstadt and Amorbach in the east.
Hiking trails such as the Nibelungensteig also lead over the Gumpener Kreuz.
