The Gmina wiejska Zamość is a rural community in the powiat Zamojski in the Lublin Voivodeship in the southeastern part of Poland , around 240 km southeast of the capital Warsaw and 110 km northwest of the Ukrainian city of Lemberg in the Roztocze region. The Gmina has an area of 196 km² and 23,166 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
The independent city of Zamość [ ˈzamɔɕt͡ɕ ] is the seat of the district and the rural municipality, but does not belong to either institution. Zamość was the capital of the voivodeship of the same name until 1998 .
The rural community of Zamość was called Gmina Mokre until 1973.
