The Zeche Lucas (also: Zeche Lukas ) was a mine in Dortmund-Körne .
history
As early as 1854 an attempt had been made to dig a shaft in Körne near Dortmund , but this attempt failed. The Geviertfelder Lucas I to III consolidated for this purpose were sold to a new owner in 1855.
The Rhine in Stolberg -based " corporation for mining, lead - and zinc production " also acquired the mining concessions Felix , Flottauf I & II and Bonin and three iron ore fields. A pit system was planned for coaling the zinc smelter , which was built right next door in 1860 and which produced until 1919. But nothing came of the plans: the first prospecting and drilling work did not begin until 1882 .
1904 was the beginning of the devil for the Stolberg I shaft , which reached the Carboniferous at 82 m depth . 1. The sole was set to 121 m depth. Coal was usually mined from the bottom up from the crooked seams . The second level had a depth of 229 m. In 1905, the Stolberg 2 weather shaft was built right next to Stolberg 1 , making the mine a double- shaft facility. The pit was right next to the zinc smelter in today's industrial area on Hannöverschen Strasse.
Shutdown
The outcrop turned out to be unsatisfactory (too little coal, difficult to mine). A mine fire on March 11th, 1908, caused by the spontaneous combustion of coal and flooding the entire mine , sealed the end of the Lucas colliery. It was shut down on June 30, 1908.
The pit fields, which had hardly been scratched until then, were divided between the Kaiserstuhl colliery and the United Hörder coal mine in 1912 .
