Zenon Łakomy (born January 1, 1951 in Gębice ; † February 24, 2016 ) was a Polish handball player and coach who was, among other things, the national coach of the Polish men's and women's handball teams .
Career
player
Zenon Łakomy played in his youth from 1965 to 1970 for Chrobry Głogów and completed some youth internationals for Poland. After that he only played for Stal Mielec until 1978 and in the 1971/72 season for the newly founded club KS AZS-AWF Katowice . At Stal Mielec, he ended his active career at the age of 27. Łakomy brought it to 25 internationals and 4 goals in the Polish national team.
Trainer
After the end of his career, he first coached the Stal Mielec juniors for a year and the women of Pogoń Stettin for six years, with whom he won a championship and a cup. In 1986 he became national coach for the Polish men. In 1990 Łakomy then moved to the newly reunified Germany to SV Post Schwerin . With Schwerin, he went to the last season of the GDR league . After a year he went to the Bundesliga club VfL Fredenbeck . In 1993 his second engagement followed in Schwerin. At the beginning of 1996 he signed a contract with Bundesliga club TSV GWD Minden . But since he still had a valid contract in Schwerin until 1997, the management complained about a breach of trust and decided to dismiss Łakomys. It was the first dismissal in his coaching career. He was able to start in Minden as early as May because the previous coach Jürgen Kloth wanted to leave the club at his own request and was sent on vacation for the rest of the contract term. Łakomy found a completely new team with stars like Stéphane Stoecklin and Vlado Šola through the Bosman ruling . When Minden was in danger of relegation in February 1997, Łakomy was also released here. There followed three more years at VfL Fredenbeck before he went back to Poland. From 2000 to 2005 he trained KS Orlen Płock , his hometown club Chrobry Głogów and Zagłębie Lubin . In the years 2005 to 2008 he was partly responsible for the Polish junior as well as for the women's national team. Here, however, he resigned after missing the Olympic qualification. Three more coaching stations followed by 2013: for the second time Chrobry Głogów, MKS Kalisz and the women of Ruch Chorzów .
Private
Łakomy acquired in 1976 his physical education teacher - Diploma at the Sports University in Warsaw . He was married to Monika, who also played handball (Polish champion 1983). The couple has three daughters (Erima, Marianna and Weronika).
death
Zenon Łakomy died on February 24, 2016. The funeral and memorial service took place on February 29, 2016 in Cieszyno (Węgorzyno) .
