The Center for Adventure Education and Environmental Education (ZERUM) Ueckermünde is a barrier-free school camp and an environmental education facility, home port of the barrier-free sailing yacht Wappen von Ueckermünde and the youth sailing yacht Greif von Ueckermünde in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located at the mouth of the Uecker in the Stettiner Haff . In addition, the ZERUM is a place for international youth encounters and advanced training for social professionals, there is a position for the Voluntary Ecological Year . The aim is to enable shared experiences and nature experiences for all young people with their different needs, starting points and skills. The main focus of the institution's work is action-oriented environmental education and experiential education .

history

From the 18th (verifiable since 1754) to the 20th century, there was an inn called Kamigkrug on the site of today's ZERUM on the course of the Alte Uecker . In 1963, a young natural scientist's station was set up in the building , a facility for environmental education that continued its work after 1990 under the sponsorship of the district until funding was no longer secured. In 1993, the Association for the Promotion of Movement- and Sport-Oriented Youth Social Work eV (bjs eV) Marburger took over the facility as a free sponsor .

Since its founding, model projects with national and state-wide impact in the areas of maritime youth education, environmental and sustainability education as well as the integration / inclusion of people with disabilities have been or are being implemented at ZERUM. In 1995 a project started to integrate young people with disabilities into extracurricular forms of youth education. The offer includes group trips lasting several days and holiday camps, regular practice days, action days and training courses, if possible with joint preparation and follow-up, often with the involvement of the parents. From 2009 to 2012, the federal model project "Floating Learning Location MV" was implemented at the educational establishment, which aimed to develop the structurally weak, but waterways-linked rural area for offers for children and youth education in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The expedition platforms "Sila" and "Vega", created as part of the model project, are still in use on the inland waterways of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg to this day.

The ZERUM is professionally and locally affiliated with two development associations for the mainsail ships "Greif von Ueckermünde" and "Wappen von Ueckermünde" with a pool of currently approx. 35 skippers and helmsmen.

In addition, there is constant cooperation with maritime-oriented associations and institutions, nature conservation institutions, institutions for the disabled and youth welfare. Specialist conferences, advanced training events and seminars serve to exchange experiences and knowledge.

Since the opening, the material conditions have been further improved, for example with the completion of three wheelchair-accessible ward blocks in 2005 and the barrier-free expansion of the in-house port in 2014. The concept is also constantly being developed and new projects are being developed, such as the project A wheelchair goes into the Luft , in which since 2013, together with students from a regular school and a special needs school, a station of the high ropes course has been converted in their free time so that it can also be used by people with physical disabilities.
