Zhenya Strigalev

Zhenya Strigalev (* around 1987 in St. Petersburg ) is a Russian jazz musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , electronics, composition ).

Live and act

Strigalev started playing the saxophone as a teenager . At the age of 17 he won the prize for the best saxophonist in a renowned St. Petersburg jazz competition. After completing his military service, his outstanding musical talent gave him a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, which he began in 2007. Since graduating, Strigalev has lived in both London and New York.

Strigalev worked with musicians like Eric Harland , Ambrose Akinmusire , Tim Lefebvre , Alex Sipiagin , William Parker , Aaron Parks , Larry Grenadier , Nasheet Waits and Liam Noble . In 2012 he released his debut album Smiling Organizm (Whirlwind Recordings) with an impressive international line-up of musicians. Drummer Eric Harland and bassist Tim Lefebvre were also involved in the next album Robin Goodie , which was also released on Whirlwind, and together with him and electronics engineer Bruno Liberda formed the core of the Never Band . With his bands he has performed at many renowned jazz festivals and on tours in Europe, Chile and the USA.
