The Zilupe ( Latvian ) or Sinjaja ( Russian Си́няя ) or Sinjucha ( Belarusian Сінюха ) is a river in the east of the Baltic States .
The river has its source in a marshland east of Lake Asweja in Belarus near the three-country corner of Latvia and Russia , flows northwards and forms the border between these two countries for 12 km. For the next 59 km to Lake Zil , the Zilupe runs on Latvian territory, then forms the border for another 4 km and then flows into the Velikaya on Russian territory . The width of the river in Latvia is 10-15 meters, below Krasnogorodsk 30 meters.
- The largest tributaries are Plusona (27 km), Istra (39 km) and Werscha .
- Larger places on the shore are Zilupe , Pogrov and Krasnogorodsk.
