history

The initiative to set up a private zoo went back to the future Minister of Finance Muhammad Abdul Mannan , the Deputy Commissioner of the Chittagong District and prominent figures in the city of Chittagong. The zoo should serve multiple purposes: conservation, research, education, and recreation. Its motto is "Securing a better world for animals through human understanding". The zoo opened on February 28, 1989.

Initially, the site was approximately 1.2 hectares (3 acres ) and featured 22 animals from five different species. In the meantime, the site has been expanded to around 2 hectares (5 acres), and further enlargements are planned. As of May 2019, the zoo is home to 300 animals from 53 species, including 25 species of mammals , 4 species of reptiles and 24 species of birds .
