Zorro junior (original title: Il figlio di Zorro ) is an adventure film with elements of the spaghetti western from 1974, directed by Gianfranco Baldanello . The film was also advertised under the title Der Wilde Ritt der Geisterreiter . The German-language premiere took place on April 4, 1994 on the private broadcaster RTL .

action

The young nobleman Don Ricardo Villaverde lives in Mexico, ruled by Emperor Maximilian and led by Governor Leblanche as his very enjoyable representation, who sees his comfortable, frivolous life only impaired by his somewhat unhappy marriage to Donna Conchita and by the occasional appearance of the masked man Son of Zorro, a fighter for the poor peons and rebels suffering from the governor and thus for the revolution. When a load of weapons is on its way to the Alcalde of the town of San Ramon, Don Herrera Coser, the transport is attacked by the rebel Garincha and Herrera is killed; his daughter Donna Conchita escapes with the help of the son of Zoro and is hidden by him. They both fall in love. Meanwhile, the weapons become the property of the rebels who equip the peons with them and the revolution begins, causing the governor and his wife to flee. The son of Zorro, who made all these happenings possible and supported, goes to the house of the unhappily married Conchita and reveals himself to her.

criticism

The critics made mostly negative judgments. Christian Keßler regrets that the financial cutbacks could not demand the good cast available and so turned the film into a moderately severe catastrophe. The Italian critic JM Sabatier attested a “beautiful photography, a somewhat constructed script and a consistent direction”, which, however, still does not make a good film overall. "Sloppy and sometimes a little violent," said Segnalazioni Cinematografiche , and the lexicon of international film saw "a cheap series production".

Remarks

The poster for Der Wilde Ritt der Geisterreiter notes the spelling “Richard Widemark” as the main actor and “Eliza Ramires” as other participants.

According to Keßler , Marina Malfatti named in the staff details does not appear in the final version of the film.
