The dwarf black bass ( Elassoma evergladei ) is a small freshwater fish from the genus of the dwarf black bass that lives in the southeastern United States of America .
features
The dwarf black bass grows to a maximum of 3.4 centimeters. It has an elongated body that is slightly compressed at the sides. Males are clay-colored to gray-green in color. At spawning time, including their fins, they are velvety black with numerous solitary, bluish, glittering scales. The fins of the females are mostly colorless.

distribution
The distribution area of the dwarf blackfish stretches from the river system of the Cape Fear River in North Carolina to Mobile Bay in Alabama , south to Florida on the northern edge of the Everglades , after which it got its species name evergladei .
habitat
The dwarf blackfish is found in swamps and small, slow-flowing bodies of water, typically over mud.
nutrition
The dwarf black bass feeds on worms and small crustaceans .
Reproduction
The female lays 40–60 eggs in aquatic plants, preferably on horn leaf ( Ceratophyllum ) if present . The male guards the eggs.
Keeping in the aquarium
The dwarf black perch is a peaceful habitat-forming species for which a species aquarium with dense planting is suitable. A socialization with the dwarf carp is possible. For breeding, the animals should overwinter cold (around 10 ° C). They prefer live food ( white mosquito larvae , daphnia , Artemia , Tubifex ).
