MSAR (Macau Special Administrative Region) passport ( Traditional Chinese: 澳門特別行政區護照 ) is a travel document only granted for one who is a permanent resident of Macau SAR with Chinese nationality.

Preface

According to the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China and the Explanations of some questions by the Standing Committee of the PRC National People's Congress concerning the implementation of the Nationality Law in the Macau SAR, any Macau SAR permanent resident of Chinese nationality can apply for the Macau SAR passport and at the same time, possess a Portuguese passport as a travel document, if such person is eligible for the Portuguese passport.

Features

The colour of the MSAR passport cover is dark-green, with the National Emblem of the People's Republic of China emblazoned in the centre of the front cover. It is inscribed with the titles of the PRC and the SAR in Traditional Chinese, Portuguese and English. A MSAR passport consists of 48 numbered pages.

Application

MSAR passports are only issued by the Direcção dos Serviços de Identificação (the Macau SAR Identification Department) in Macau [1].

Macau SAR Permanent Resident Identity Card, two recent ½ inches colour photos, the original of Macau SAR Passport (second time) are generally required to submit with an application form.

Qualified applicants can apply in Macau or overseas, if necessary.

Date of Collection

Generally, one may pick up one's passport in 10 business days. 2 business days will be enough to issue a passport in an urgent case; however, an additional fee will be charged.

Visa-free granted for MSAR passport

MSAR passport is widely respected and 74 countries and territories agreed to give the treatment of visa-free or landing visas for Macao SAR passport holders (16th August, 2006) [2]:
