"Gimme More"
Song

"Gimme More" is a song recorded by American pop singer Britney Spears for her as-yet-untitled fifth album. According to Access Hollywood and EW, "Gimme More" was produced by Nate "Danja" Hillz, and written by Danja, Keri Hilson, James Washington, and Marcella Araica.[1] It is set to be the lead single from her new album, which is slated for a November 13 release [2].

"Gimme More" leaked onto the Internet on August 30, 2007 before its premier on Z100 in New York City, followed by other premieres in other major markets such as KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, and Hot 99.5 in Washington, D.C. among others.[3] The audio to the song is currently available on demand at Z100's website [4].

On July 19 and August 7, 2007, Spears filmed the music video for "Gimme More" in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles.[5] The video is rumored to be released sometime during the week of September 3, as reported by US Weekly.[6]

Critical reception

The song has received major fan reaction across the Internet community, most likely because the song is Spears' first major radio release in nearly four years. The song has been praised by MTV and Blender Magazine, which gave the song 4/5 stars, [7].

"Gimme More" was #1 in the Hot 30 Countdown on Australia's 2dayfm radio station on the day it leaked and the following day.[8] Mediabase, which records a song's airplay, is reporting that "Gimme More" has reached #30.[9][10] The song has also received airplay on Rhythmic, Hot AC, and Urban stations.

After much speculation, it is confirmed that Britney will open the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of the song and an unheard song from the new album titled 'Cry'; she has been working with illusionist Criss Angel for the performance. [11].

Charts

With only three full days of airplay during the tracking week, the song racked up 688 detections on the CHR/Top 40 panel of radio stations. Thus the song was able to debut this week at #109 on the Billboard Bubbling Under 100 [12] and #55 on the Pop 100 [13]. Outside the US the song has also proven to be extremely popular just days after it was released. "Gimme More" debuted at #3 on the Swedish Singles Chart.[14]
