The 2007 World Series, the 103rd edition of Major League Baseball's championship series, began on Wednesday, October 24 featuring the National League champion Colorado Rockies—making their first World Series appearance—and the American League champion Boston Red Sox. The Rockies entered the Series having won 21 of their last 22 games, going back to the end of the regular season, including sweeps of the Phillies in the NLDS and the Diamondbacks in the NLCS. The Red Sox swept the Angels in the ALDS and defeated the Indians in the ALCS after trailing three games to one, taking the final three contests by a combined score of 30-5. During the regular season, the Rockies won 2 out of 3 games against the Red Sox in an interleague series at Fenway Park.
Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed on October 24, 2006,[3] the Red Sox will have home field advantage in the World Series following the American League's 5-4 win in the 2007 All-Star Game. The first two games will take place in Boston, with Games 3 and 4 in Denver. If necessary, Game 5 will be in Denver and Games 6 and 7 will take place in Boston.
The World Series is being televised by FOX, with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver as booth announcers. Rogers Sportsnet (RSN) in Canada will use the MLB International feed with Dave O'Brien and Rick Sutcliffe as booth announcers. The Series is broadcast nationally on ESPN Radio, with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan as booth announcers. The starting time for each broadcast is 8:00 pm EDT/6:00 pm MDT, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:29 pm.

Game 1, October 24
Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
The Red Sox cruised to a blowout win in Game One behind ALCS MVP Josh Beckett. Beckett struck out nine en route to his fourth win of the postseason, including the first four men to face him. Rookie Dustin Pedroia led off the Red Sox 1st with a home run just over the Green Monster in Fenway Park (just the second lead-off home run in a World Series Game One and the first since 1969). Boston scored two other runs in the inning which proved to be all the runs they would need. The game got away from Colorado in the 5th inning thanks to the final six of Boston's seventeen hits and three bases-loaded walks. The Red Sox accumulated a World Series-record 9 extra base-hits and a Game 1-record 13 runs.

Game 2, October 25
Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
After the debacle of Game 1, Colorado appeared to return to form, scoring quickly on a groundout by Todd Helton. However, postseason veteran Curt Schilling and Boston's bullpen (Okajima, 2⅓ IP; Papelbon, 1⅓ IP) would allow no other runs in the contest. Mike Lowell's RBI double gave Boston the lead after Jason Varitek's sacrifice fly had knotted the score in the middle innings. Matt Holliday had 4 of Colorado's 5 hits in a losing effort.

Ticket controversy
On October 17 2007, a week before the first game of the World Series, the Colorado Rockies announced that tickets would be made available to the general public via online sales only despite prior arrangements to sell the tickets at local retail outlets.[4] Five days later on October 22, California based ticket vendor Paciolan, Inc., the sole contractor authorized by the Colorado Rockies to distribute tickets, was forced to suspend sales after less than an hour due to the exorbitant number of attempts to purchase tickets.[5]
An official release from the baseball organization claims that they were the victims of a denial of service attack, however these claims were unsubstantiated and neither the Rockies nor Paciolan have sought investigation into the matter.[6] Ticket sales resumed the next day, with all three home games selling out within 2½ hours.
As a result of the decision to sell tickets solely online, local fans of the Colorado Rockies were placed at a disadvantage, forced to compete with ticket brokers and ticket scalpers from around the world. Also at a disadvantage were the disabled and those unable to access or afford an internet connection. It is widely accepted that ticket brokers, agents and scalpers purchased a majority of the tickets made available to the general public. Within an hour of tickets selling out, the average price had inflated to over five times face value, well out of reach of the average fan.
It is argued that the decision to move to internet based ticket sales only was the result of a last minute agreement between Paciolan and the Colorado Rockies based on prior arrangements that the vendor had made with ticket brokers and major on and offshore ticket scalpers. As of October 24, the Federal Trade Commission is considering an investigation into the possibility that Paciolan, Inc., had a part in creating an unfair market for the World Series tickets.

Notes
- Due to the new playoff format that allows an extra day off, this is the first World Series ever to have a scheduled start on the 24th of October.
- If all seven games are played, it will be the second time a World Series has extended into November. The only other series with a game in November was the 2001 World Series, due to the delay of the baseball season following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
- During the World Series, if any player were to steal a base, Taco Bell will give away a free taco to anybody who goes to their store and asks for one as part of the promotion. [7] Jacoby Ellsbury stole the first base of the series in game 2, meaning that everyone in America is entitled to a free taco on October 30th between 2pm and 5pm local times.
- Game 1's Star Spangled Banner was arranged and conducted by John Williams and performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra.
- Josh Beckett now has 35 strikeouts and only 2 walks in the 2007 postseason.
