Brief History
The origin of Brgy. Bilogo is certainly unknown, but there's also a large possibility that its existence begun before or after the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines. Brgy. Bilogo was just then a part of the Coumintang Kingdom ruled by the datus which the seat of the government was located mainly in Batangas City. The official day of the Patron Saint Mary Feast is celebrated every the thirtieth of May a year. The public school is probably built during the reigh of Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos. The first Barangay Captain to be recorded in the modern history was Angel Umali that served from the late 20th century until the year 2002. During his leadership, Brgy. Bilogo achieved the title for being the cleanliest and healthiest barangay in the former Region 4 of the Philippines. By then, Brgy. Bilogo begun receiving major awards for every contest that it joined.

Angel Umali was succeeded by Alfredo Villanueva whose term saw great improvements to Brgy. Bilogo. Roads were repaired coupled with the constructions of new canals and improvements of waterworks through the helped of the late Gov. Arman Sanchez and Mayor Eduardo Dimacuha which both gave three up to five-horse power submersible pumps and cables and 20 GI pipes during June 2006. Also the Materials Recovery Facility or MRF was constructed in Purok 4 in order to maintain proper segregation for solid waste materials. On the other hand, the agricultural progress of Brgy. Bilogo was temporary hampered when two super-typhoons, Caloy and Reming greatly devastated crops and uproot much of the fruit-bearing trees, resulting into some harvest failures the same that year.

Alfredo Villanueva was succeeded by Ramil Manalo after winning the Philippine National Barangay Election of November 2007. Earlier on April, former Gov. Arman Sanchez visited Brgy. Bilogo during his campaign for the Philippine Senatorial Election of May 2007. Ramil Manalo was able to reorganize, continue and launched the Volleyball Summer League on April 2008 which begun under the term of the former Barangay Captain on May 2007.

The Sword

The Sword is an American heavy metal band that formed in Austin, Texas in 2003.[1][2][3] The band comprises vocalist and guitarist John "J. D." Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt, bassist Bryan Richie and drummer Trivett Wingo; they are known for the appearance of their song "Freya" in the 2006 video game Guitar Hero II.[4]

History

After recording music on his own,[5] Cronise enlisted the help of Shutt, Richie and Wingo to form The Sword in 2003. The band released an eponymous demo, The Sword, in 2004,[3] which was followed the next year by a second demo, also self-titled.[3] After performing at the 2005 South by Southwest festival, the band were signed to New York City-based label Kemado Records.[1]

In February 2006 The Sword released their debut full-length album, Age of Winters. In support of the album, they toured with such bands as Early Man, Priestess, Lacuna Coil and Trivium in the United States; Nebula and Clutch in Europe; and Lamb of God in Japan.[6] In June they contributed a new song, "Under the Boughs", to the Kemado compilation Invaders,[7] and in November the song "Freya" from Age of Winters was covered and featured as a playable track on the video game Guitar Hero II.[4] "Freya" was later released as a single in September 2007.[8]

In November 2007 the band released a split extended play with Swedish doom metal band Witchcraft. The Sword's contribution included a new track, "Sea of Spears", as well as a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song".[2] Gods of the Earth was the band's second studio album, released on April 1, 2008.[2] In support of the album the band are, as of October 2008, touring with such acts as Machine Head, Lamb of God, Down and Metallica on their Death Magnetic Tour.[6] Gods of the Earth reached #102 on the Billboard 200 chart,[9] becoming the only release by the band to chart anywhere.

Style and lyrical themes

The Sword are commonly classified as doom metal,[1][3][10] alternative metal[1] and stoner metal.[10] allmusic describes them as being "at the forefront of ... the 'heritage' or 'retro metal' movement",[11] comparing the band to heavy metal veterans Black Sabbath and vocalist Cronise to Ozzy Osbourne.[11] Rolling Stone also likens the band to Sabbath,[12] as do absolutepunk.net in their review of Gods of the Earth, claiming that "It's impossible not to compare [the album] to the works of Black Sabbath."[13]

While every member of the band contributes to the compositions, Cronise is the sole writer of the band's lyrics. While influenced by Norse mythology,[3] Cronise insists that his writing is not solely based on such a topic.[5] He instead cites literature as his main influence, naming such famous authors as George R. R. Martin, Robert E. Howard, H. P. Lovecraft and Arthur C. Clarke.[5]
