Down is a Metal - band from New Orleans ( USA ).

Band history

The band was founded in 1991 and released their debut album NOLA in 1995 , which has now become a classic of the heavy metal / heavy rock genre.

In 2002 the band members met again and recorded the second album Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow in the bayous of New Orleans in just 26 days. According to their own statements, the album was recorded very spontaneously and “in a fog of alcohol and drugs”. The band is proud that their music sounds like a live demo and criticizes that today's bands analyze and polish their songs until all energy is lost. During this time, Phil Anselmo was certain that Pantera would no longer have a future. However, years passed before Pantera was officially dissolved. Since its foundation, the band gave two concerts in Germany for the first time in 2006, which (without introducing new songs) were sold out after a short time.

The album entitled Down III: Over the Under , which like its predecessor was produced by Warren Riker , was released on September 24, 2007 by ILG / Warner Music Group. It turns out quite hard even for Down conditions. In the piece Pillamyd you can discover bonds from Metallica's Creeping Death . A two-month tour through North America followed. It was also announced in a current issue of Metal Hammer magazine that the band was planning a release that would only contain quieter, acoustic pieces.

In October / November 2008, Down appeared in the opening act for Metallica's USA tour . In 2011 it was announced that bassist Rex Brown had been replaced by Crowbar's Patrick Bruders. In September 2012 the first of four planned extended plays , Down IV Part I - The Purple EP, was released . In the summer of 2013, Kirk Windstein left the band and was replaced by Bobby Landgraf.

style

In terms of style, the musicians are based on bands such as Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin , their heavily blues- influenced songs are often referred to as Southern Rock . The first two albums tend to be more metal . The dynamism and diversity in their songs is striking: Often lazy, gloomy moments alternate with cheerful ones such as B. Stained Glass Cross .

The line-up of the band consists of members of the bands Pantera ( Phil Anselmo , Rex Brown ), Corrosion of Conformity (Pepper Keenan), Crowbar ( Kirk Windstein , Patrick Bruders) and EyeHateGod ( Jimmy Bower ).
