(10745) Arnstadt is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on January 11, 1989 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia . The first sightings of the asteroid had already been made in March 1950 and March 1956 at the Palomar Observatory in California .

(10745) Arnstadt was named on January 24, 2000 after the district town of Arnstadt in Thuringia, which, with its first documentary mention in 704, is the oldest city in Thuringia and one of the oldest cities in Germany outside of the Roman settlement areas.
