(2092) Sumiana is an asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered by the Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Tschernych on October 16, 1969 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095). There had been sightings of the asteroid before, for example on May 4, 1967 under the provisional designation 1967 JG at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.

The asteroid is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids named after (158) Koronis . The ageless (not osculating ) orbital elements of (2092) Sumiana are almost identical with those of five smaller (when one of the absolute brightness , 15.2, 15.3, 16.3, 17.1 and 17.2 compared to 11 8) Asteroids: (117655) 2005 EG 182 , (133419) 2003 SE 189 , (219861) 2002 CP 250 , (290675) 2005 UL 338 and (373859) 2003 QW 83 .

According to the UBV system , an observation on April 6, 2009 at (2092) Sumiana assumed a light surface. It would therefore be an S-type asteroid . The mean diameter of the asteroid is estimated to be 11.9 km in this study.

(2092) Sumiana was named after the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy on April 1, 1980 .
