(2240) Tsai ( 1978 YA ; 1952 FP ; 1966 RH ; 1972 TV 1 ) is a main outer belt asteroid found on December 30, 1978 at the Oak Ridge Observatory of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysicsin in Harvard, Massachusetts ( IAU code 801) was discovered. The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .

designation

(2240) Tsai was named after the Taiwanese astronomer Tsai Chang-hsien , who was director of the Taipei Upper Vatory from World War II . He was an active observer of planets and variable stars .
