(4186) Tamashima is a main belt asteroid discovered on February 18, 1977 by Japanese astronomers Hiroki Kōsai and Kiichirō Furukawa at the Kiso Observatory ( IAU code 381) in Kiso on Mount Ontake .

The asteroid was named after the former Japanese city of Tamashima (today: Kurashiki ).
