(45299) Stivell is an asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered on January 6, 2000 by the Czech astronomer Miloš Tichý at the Kleť observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov . Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already occurred in November 1978 under the provisional designation 1978 VJ 9 at the Palomar Observatory in California .
The asteroid is part of the Astraea family, a group of asteroids named after (5) Astraea .
(45299) Stivell is named after the Breton harpist Alan Stivell . His albums Telenn Geltiek: Harpe celtique (1964), Renaissance de la harpe celtique (1971) and Symphonie celtique: Tír na nÓg (1979) were particularly highlighted in the dedication . The name was given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) on November 13, 2008.
