(49440) Kenzotange is an asteroid located in the main belt , which was discovered on December 21, 1998 by the Japanese astronomer Akimasa Nakamura at the Kuma-Kōgen Observatory ( IAU code 360) in the prefecture of Ehime on the island of Shikoku .
The asteroid was named on February 19, 2006 after the Japanese architect Kenzō Tange (1913-2005), who designed numerous public buildings and in 1987 received the Pritzker Architecture Prize .
