(5313) Nunes is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 18 September 1982 by the Belgian astronomer Henri DEBEHOGNE at La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Portuguese mathematician and astronomer Pedro Nunes (1502–1578), who made significant achievements in the areas of navigation and angle measurement and who developed the vernier named after him .
