(8023) Joseph Walker is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17 February 1991 by Japanese astronomers Takeshi Urata at the Oohira station of Nihondaira Observatory ( IAU code 385) in Shimizu in Shizuoka Prefecture was discovered.
The celestial body is named after the US test pilot Joseph Albert Walker (1921–1966), who completed 24 flights in the X-15 program , as the only X-15 pilot, also according to the definition of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), space reached, and when NASA pilot was only awarded his astronaut wings posthumously on August 23, 2005 .
