(842) Kerstin is an asteroid of the outer main belt which was discovered by the German astronomer Max Wolf on October 1, 1916 at the Bergsternwarte Heidelberg ( IAU code 024).
The mean diameter of the asteroid is 43.576 (± 0.190) km, the albedo of 0.051 (± 0.005) suggests a very dark surface.
The reason for the naming "Kerstin" is not known.
