(8889) Mock is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 31 July 1994 by the Japanese astronomer Yoshisada Shimizu and Takeshi Urata at Nachi-Katsuura Observatory ( IAU code 905) in the Wakayama Prefecture was discovered.
The asteroid was named on March 9, 2001 after the character of the Mock Turtle from the children's book Alice in Wonderland by the British writer Lewis Carroll .
