Écailles de Lune ( French for moon scales ) is the second studio album by the French music project Alcest . It was released worldwide on March 26, 2010 via the German label Prophecy Productions .
It is the first album that Neige recorded with Winterhalter . With two exceptions, the lyrics of the songs are all in French, while Solar Song is Alcest's first song in English and Abysses is a purely instrumental piece. Except for Sur l'océan couleur de fer , which is a musical setting of the poem of the same name by Paul-Jean Toulet , the texts were written by Neige. Except for Abysses , the music was composed by Alcest. For Abysses showed Fursy Teyssier of Les Discrets responsible. Teyssier also designed the cover image for the album.
The album was produced in the summer of 2009 by Martin Koller in the Klangschmiede Studio E in Mellrichstadt , Thuringia . The album comprises six tracks with a playing time of 41 minutes and 39 seconds.
concept
Neige said that the album is not a metaphor for death , but is about a man who decides to leave one world to awaken in a new world, a new reality and a new existence. There was a tendency towards the sea , its energy and the enthusiasm when you sit in front of it at night. It is, according to Neige, terribly fascinating, full of secrets and terrifying at the same time.
Concerts
In the context of the release, the band played their very first concerts. The very first concert took place in Bucharest , the capital of Romania . In April 2010, shortly after the album was released in North America, the very first concerts of the project took place in the United States and Canada .
Album cover
The cover, which, according to Metal.de, is based on Art Nouveau and mainly in shades of blue, was designed by Fursy Teyssier . It shows a female and a male person. The woman, presumably a mermaid, covers the sleeping man with her hair.

Reviews
iron thorn from the Austrian online media Stormbringer.at writes that the songs their optimistic despite Esprit Black Metal - Roar could maintain. The instrumentation is described as more straightforward than on the previous album, but “Black Metal is finally droning out of the speakers again.” According to Michael Edele from Laut.de, Neige takes all the basic features of the debut album Souvenirs d'un autre monde and builds them with far-reaching Sound collages and reminiscences of your own past. Edele compares the music with Sigur Rós , Subaudition and Les Discrets . Jens describes the musical soundscapes that stay in the ear on Metal.de as melancholic and romantic. According to the critic, the vocals lay "like a veil of sadness and longing" over the entire album, while the "rapturous, heartbreaking screams and the passionate-sad sound collages" remind us of the musical roots of Black Metal. The music of Amesoeurs and Agalloch is compared .
