The Beihang University is (officially known as Beihang University since 23 September 2002) is a university in Beijing Municipality Haidian .
It was founded in 1952 and offers a wide range of courses in the fields of science , technology , law , economics , management , philosophy , foreign languages and education . But the focus is on aviation and space travel . The competitions in weightlifting the 2008 Summer Olympic Games were held in the sports hall of the Beihang University.
history
Beijing Aerospace University was founded on October 25, 1952 as the Beijing Institute of Aeronautics . The aeronautical engineering departments of eight different universities formed the basis of this institution. The institute was located in western Beijing, in the Haidian district, where a 60,000 square meter building was built. In the beginning there were only two departments: engineering and aerospace technology . In May 1988 the name was changed to Beijing Aerospace University . The university has been considered and funded in several five-year plans of the People's Republic of China .
2008 Summer Olympics
During the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in the renovated in 2007 Gymnasium Beihang University have the competitions in weightlifting occurred. Weightlifting at the 2008 Summer Paralympics also took place there. The hall offers 3400 seats, which were supplemented by 2600 temporary seats on the occasion of the Olympic Games.
