Publications

Numerous authors such as Raimund Lang , Maximilian Liebmann , Dieter A. Binder , Roland Girtler , Harald Seewann , Ernst Exner , the long-time head of the DÖW Wolfgang Neugebauer , the Polish student historian Bartłomiej Wróblewski , Heinz Krejci or the deputy director of the Institute for Medieval Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences Renate Kohn u. a., have contributed to the publications of the ÖVfSTG:

Acta Studentica

Even when the Austrian Association for Student History was founded, it was clear that a regularly published printed work was absolutely necessary to inform and promote its work. The funds were not yet sufficient for a real newspaper , and so, dated January 2, 1971, a two-page “letter” appeared. The mailing from April 1971 already bears the heading "Circular 2" and comprises five pages, the next circular it was seven pages and the last one in 1971 eight pages. In October 1972 the first episode of Acta Studentica was published, still in a simple form, hectographed and with 10 pages, which then increased over the years to 12 to 16 pages. With episode 134 of March 2001, the A4 format used up until then was switched to the smaller format of the Tradition and Future book series . A total of 193 issues have been published so far. The current issues generally have 24 pages and appear quarterly. All booklets since 1972 are u. a. in Austria National Library in the University Library of Vienna and in the University Library of Würzburg.

A list of names and keywords was published as early as episode 19/20 (December 1976), and again in a supplemented form for episode 50 (December 1983). As a result of 29 of the contributions on Austrian student history , a complete register was presented in 2005 for all 150 issues of Acta that had appeared up to then .

Contributions to Austrian student history

Articles , Volume 31

All brochures in this series appear in A4 format. They are intended as working aids for the student historian, therefore do not appear in a very large edition and are technically simple. The booklets of this series can also be found in academic libraries. 32 volumes have appeared so far. with different contributions, e.g. B .: For customs of the fraternities , (Vol. 5) Student anti-Semitism in Austria , (Vol. 10) From Basel to Chernivtsi - The Jewish student organizations in Europe (Vol. 12), wife and Couleur (Vol. 18), Ottokar Kernstock - a controversial poet and priest (vol. 30).

  • The picture postcard catalog of the school association and similar associations (vol. 27), in which more than 6,000 cards of this genre are documented, attracted particular attention . It is particularly used by postcard collectors and dealers.

Tradition and future

Volume 15 of the Tradition and Future series

This series is designed for books that are aimed at a larger group of interested parties and therefore appear in higher editions. The first volume appeared in 1991. With volume 6, an attempt was made for the first time to offer an incentive for connections to publish appropriately qualified connection stories by supporting the publication and making it accessible to a wider public. The books in the TZ series lie u. a. in Austria National Library, the German National Library and the University Library of Vienna. The works of the ÖVfStG can also be found in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Library of Congress or the Library for Research on Educational History and many other libraries.

Outward effect

Due to the availability of publications in public libraries, students repeatedly become aware of the ÖVfStG and ask for help with their diploma theses, which was also possible in many cases (most recently the diploma thesis Students and Politics at the University of Vienna 1918- 1938 by Wolfgang Zaunbauer). The historical institutes of the Austrian universities also recommend the association's archive for source study. The collections of the ÖVfStG are available for inspection by student associations, clubs and associations on opening days. There is also close cooperation with the German Working Group of Student Historians , the Swiss Association for Student History , the Association for German Student History and the Institute for Higher Education at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg .

Every two years the ÖVfStG organizes an Austrian student historian conference. Since 1982 every second conference has been held jointly with the German and Swiss associations. In October 2008 the ÖVfStG organized the joint German-Swiss-Austrian conference in the Rakouské kulturní fórum ( Austrian Cultural Forum ) in Prague. On May 9th and 10th, 2014 the 21st Austrian Student Historians Conference took place in St. Pölten under the title "Aufhebbaren" in cooperation with the Lower Austrian State Archives and the Lower Austrian State Library . The conference was headed by archive director HR Dr. Willibald Rosner .

Library

An EDP-supported library has been set up for the association's book collection since autumn 2013. The ÖVfStG is therefore also a member of the Austrian Library Association (BVÖ) . Its holdings will be available in the BVÖ's OPAC in the foreseeable future . There are currently around 3,000 media, mostly printed and bound books. Occasionally, however, electronic media such as DVDs etc.

Institute for Student History

Evidence of student art and culture is mostly in private hands and is often disposed of or sold with the collector's estate. Collecting them is one of the tasks and objectives of the Institute for Student History run by the Austrian Association for Student History . Everything that has to do with student associations, secondary schools, colleges and universities is therefore taken over by the association.
