Ernst Exner

Ernst Exner (born September 2, 1934 in Vienna ; † March 5, 2019 ibid) was an Austrian radio journalist .

Life

Ernst Exner studied after receiving his Matura in 1953 at the Bundesrealgymnasium XVIII in Vienna. at the University of Vienna initially law , but then switched to studying musicology . In 1960 he came to Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) , where he worked as an editor for the Current Service department and designed radio programs . He conducted numerous interviews with well-known personalities, especially with artists from the music sector.

In 1967, under ORF General Director Gerd Bacher, the ORF regional studios were founded and Exner became the first editor-in-chief of the new regional studio for Lower Austria. From 1967 to 1987 he headed the current service . During this time he reported on many important events for radio and television, such as various elections, the papal visit in 1983 , the discussions on the capital issue of Lower Austria or the referendum on the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant . He was the initiator and co-designer of several series of Radio Niederösterreich . For television he was the author and designer of numerous documentaries, especially in the historical and cultural area.

Together with the then regional director Kurt Bergmann , he was involved in the founding of the donation campaign Licht ins Dunkel in 1973 .

From 1987 until his retirement in 1994, Exner headed the culture and science department in the Lower Austria regional studio. For Ö1 he worked for the program “Dimensions” and often moderated the program “Von Tag zu Tag”.

Ernst Exner was a member of the student associations KÖHV Pannonia (1953) and KaV Austro-Peisonia (1960) in the ÖCV and the KÖL Tegethoff in the MKV . In 1972 he became Philistine senior of Pannonia. He did research in the field of student song , student music, student history and color cards .

He was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1978 Exner was appointed Knight of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien de Fürstenberg and invested in the Papal Lay Order by Bishop Jakob Weinbacher , Grand Prior of the Austrian Lieutenancy . E was last officer of the order.

He died on the night of March 4-5, 2019 at the age of 84.

He was buried at the Baumgartner Friedhof .
