The overlooked felt herb ( Filago neglecta (Soy.-Will.) DC. , Syn .: Logfia neglecta (Soy.-Will.) Holub ), also known as misunderstood felt herb , is an extinct plant from the genus of felt herbs ( Filago ).

description

The overlooked feltwort was an annual plant that reached a stature height of 6 to 20 centimeters. The thin main stem was strongly branched from the base and ended in a head-like tangle. The leaves were 1.5 to 2.5 cm long and sat at the base of the stem. The leaf blade was linear-awl-shaped.

The almost round, cup-shaped inflorescences were 2.5 to 4 mm in size. The bracts were brownish.

Occurrence

Well-known occurrences were in France , Belgium (Calestienne, Rochefort , Aywaille , Ciergnon and Verdenne) as well as in Germany near Rödersheim (Palatinate) and Bell near the Maria Laach Abbey (Eifel), where the species was collected in 1858. The species occurred in furrowed fields on fresh sandy soils and thrived there together with the swamp dysentery herb ( Gnaphalium uliginosum ).

die out

The overlooked feltwort was last detected in 1901 in Germany, 1910 in Belgium and around 1930 in Lorraine . Also in Italy and thus everywhere else the species has apparently become extinct. It is likely that changes in arable farming contributed to the species' extinction.
