İlker Yağcıoğlu (born March 1, 1966 in Adapazarı ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.

Player career

society

İlker Yağcıoğlu began his club football career at the provincial club Sakaryaspor, which is known for its youth work . Here he was trained as a classic right- winger and played this role for several years. At the then second division he was integrated into the squad of the professional team in 1986 and rose to become a regular player a little later. In his second season he was promoted to champions of the TFF 1st Lig in the Süper Lig .

After Sakaryaspor missed relegation after a two-year presence in the Süper Lig at the end of the 1989/90 season, Yağcıoğlu moved to the new season for first division newcomer Aydınspor . This team caused a big sensation on the first day of the match. They beat the big favorites Fenerbahçe Istanbul away with the memorable final result of 1: 6. Yağcıoğlu was largely responsible for this success with his three goals in this encounter. The first season ended in eleventh place in the table. The next season the team improved again and surprisingly finished fifth in the table at the end of the season.

For the 1992/93 season he then moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Here he played three seasons as a classic right winger and remained with the club without a title. Yağcıoğlu was one of the few players on his team who received positive criticism. So he rose to the national team in the 1994/95 season.

For the summer of 1995/96 Fenerbahçe introduced the Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira as head coach. The first thing he did was to completely reorganize the team and to leave several seasoned players. He worked Yağcıoğlu to left defender and put in front of him Tayfun Korkut as a winger . This change had an effect and so both players played an important role in winning the championship. Furthermore, both footballers were also placed in the national team in this constellation and showed success. At the end of the season Parreira left the club after winning the championship. Yağcıoğlu played for Fenerbahçe until the summer of 1999 and was then eliminated.

He then played in turn for Kocaelispor , Sarıyer SK and İstanbulspor and then ended his active career as a professional athlete in the summer of 2003.

National team

Yağcıoğlu was nominated for the first time in 1994 by the then national coach Fatih Terim for the Turkish national team and made his international debut on August 31, 1984 in a friendly against the Macedonian selection . He was then active in two matches in the 1996 European Football Championship qualification . After the team qualified for this tournament for the first time in their career, Yağcıoğlu was not nominated for the tournament roster.

After the tournament, coach Terim left the national team and took over Galatasaray Istanbul . Mustafa Denizli was his successor . He took over the successful right side of Fenerbahçe Istanbul with Yağcıoğlu as left defender and put Tayfun Korkut as a winger in the national team. Yağcıoğlu played almost all of the qualifying matches for the 1998 World Cup . His national team career was particularly marked by the qualifying match against the Dutch national team on April 2, 1997. In this encounter he prepared the goal of Hakan Şükür with a long, dribble-intensive wing run through a long banana flank .

After missed qualification Denizli made a revision in the team and sorted out the older players, including Yağcıoğlu.

Coaching career

After finishing his active career, Yağcıoğlu worked as an assistant coach in turn at Kayserispor , Malatyaspor , MKE Ankaragücü and Caykur Rizespor . He then tried his hand at head coach, but was unsuccessful. In 2008 he took over his hometown club Sakaryaspor and submitted his resignation after ten match days.

In September 2010 he took over the third division side Sarıyer SK and looked after it until the end of the season. After the season ended below expectations, the club management separated from him.
