Șerbăneşti is a Romanian municipality with 3212 inhabitants (2002) in the east of the Olt district . It lies at an altitude of about 135 meters above sea level and covers about 41 km². Belonging are the villages Șerbăneşti de Jos, Șerbăneşti de Sus and Strugurelu (formerly Jarcaleti). The nearest train station is about twenty kilometers north in Potcoava and offers the villages a connection to the Timișoara - Slatina - Pitești - Bucharest route .
history
The place was first mentioned on July 23, 1513 as Serbanesti. Further mentions are recorded in the years 1539 and 1717. In 1780 two places (Upper and Lower Serbănești) were mapped, so that the place has consisted of two districts at the latest.
