Ḥāʾ ,حاء, is the sixth letter of the Arabic alphabet and (asحی جیمی He-ye Djimi ) the eighth of the Persian . Itemergedfrom the Phoenician Chet and is thus related to the Latin H , the Greek Eta and the Hebrew Chet . The numerical value 8 is assigned to it.

Sound value and transcription

The Ḥa has no exact equivalent in German; the closest would be the "H" in German Hall or Hopp! come. This sound is often made out of speech when trying to cool hot food in the mouth by breathing. This is the voiceless pharyngeal fricative [ ħ ], quasi a strongly breathed "h", which is produced by a narrowing in the pharynx and whose voiced counterpart is the ain . In the DMG inscription, ح is reproduced with a dotted h (ḥ). "H" is usually used in non-scientific transcription. The distinction between Ha (corresponding to the German “H”) is lost; In domain names, internet forums and when using chat programs, an “h” also represents the Ha, whereas the number “7” is used for the Ḥa.
