(12512) Split is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 21, 1998 by the Croatian astronomers Korado Korlević and Marino Dusić at the Višnjan Observatory ( IAU code 120) in Croatia .

The asteroid was named on June 7, 2009 after the Dalmatian port city of Split , the city center of which, together with Diocletian's Palace, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979 .

(12512) Split belongs to the Levin family, a group of asteroids named after (2076) Levin .
