(2153) Akiyama ( 1978 XD ; 1955 UQ 1 ; 1972 YA ; 1973 AK 3 ; 1977 VW ; 1979 FS ) is an asteroid of the main outer belt belonging to the Themis family and located on December 1, 1978 at the Oak Ridge Observatory (then as Agassiz Station part of the Harvard College Observatory ).

designation

The asteroid was named after Kaoru Akiyama (1901-1970), a professor at Hōsei University from 1930 to 1940 and 1949 to 1970. He was known for his work on asteroids. Together with Kiyotsugu Hirayama , after whom the asteroid (1999) Hirayama was named, he explored the orbit of the asteroid (153) Hilda .
