designation
(2358) Bahner was named after Klaus Bahner (* 1921), who worked at the State Observatory in Heidelberg-Königstuhl and was particularly involved in the design of large telescopes. The design of the 1.2 meter, 2.2 meter and 3.5 meter telescopes at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy can be traced back to him. The naming after Klaus Bahner was proposed by the German astronomer Lutz D. Schmadel and supported by the German priest and amateur astronomer Otto Kippes .
