(2396) Kochi is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 9 February 1981 by the Japanese astronomer Tsutomu Seki at Geisei Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 372).

It was named after the city of Kōchi , the administrative seat of the prefecture of Kōchi on the Japanese island of Shikoku , where the discoverer of the asteroid was born. The city is the location of the Kōchi Castle , which is not a replica of the post-war period, but has been partially preserved in its original state.
