The asteroid belongs to the Merxia family , a group of asteroids named after (808) Merxia .
Discovery and naming
The celestial body was discovered on December 20, 1976 by the Soviet astronomer N. S. Tschernych at the branch of the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj , Ukrainian SSR ( IAU code 095) and was given a designation for the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko in honor of the Great Kobsar , the name Kobzar .
