(2635) Huggins is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 21 February 1982 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the British physicist and astronomer Sir William Huggins (1824-1910), who from 1856 as a pioneer of spectroscopy explored the spectra of various astronomical objects from his private observatory . He was the first astronomer to use these observations to distinguish between nebulae and galaxies .
