(2705) Wu ( 1980 TD 4 ; 1967 TC ; 1976 GF 8 ; 1976 JE 1 ) is an asteroid of the main inner belt discovered on October 9, 1980 by the American astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory about 80 kilometers northeast of San Diego , California ( IAU code 675) was discovered.

designation

(2705) Wu was named after the astrogeologist Sherman SC Wu , who worked for the United States Geological Survey . Wu and his colleagues created detailed topographic maps of selected regions of the moon and Mars , including Olympus Mons and parts of Valles Marineris .
