(29208) Halorentz is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 9, 1991 by the German astronomers Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named after the Dutch mathematician and physicist Hendrik Antoon Lorentz (1853–1928), who developed the mathematical basis for Albert Einstein's special theory of relativity and in 1902 for the explanation of the Zeeman effect together with his student Pieter Zeeman with the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded.
