(35270) Molinari is an asteroid of the main belt discovered on September 7, 1996 by Valter Giuliani and Paolo Chiavenna at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587) in Sormano in the Italian province of Como in the Lombardy region .
The celestial body belongs to the Erigone family, a group of asteroids named after (163) Erigone . Within the Erigone family, (5026) Martes is the namesake of a separate subfamily
The asteroid was named on December 10, 2011 after the Italian astronomer Emilio Molinari (* 1963), who is currently director of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo and the Rapid Eye Mount Observatory .
