(48) Doris is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 19, 1857 by the Franco-German astronomer Hermann Mayer Salomon Goldschmidt .
Naming
It was named after a female Greek legend. Doris was an Oceanid and mother of the Nereids and Amphitrites .
