(48782) Fierz is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 20, 1997 by the Czech astronomer Lenka Kotková at the Ondřejov observatory ( IAU code 557) south of Prague .

The asteroid was named on April 9, 2009 after the Swiss educator and translator Olga Fierz (1900–1990) who, together with Přemysl Pitter, saved German and Jewish children in Prague after the Second World War .
