(4957) Brucemurray is a near-Earth asteroid and Mars orbit cruiser of the Cupid type , which was discovered on December 15, 1990 by the American astronomer Eleanor Helin at the Palomar Observatory .

The celestial body was named in honor of Bruce C. Murray , a professor of planetary science at the California Institute of Technology and former director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory .
