(5811) Keck is a main belt asteroid discovered on May 19, 1988 by astronomer Eleanor Helin at the Palomar Observatory 80 kilometers northeast of San Diego , California . It was named after Howard B. Keck , chairman of the WM Keck Foundation , which financed the two giant telescopes of the Keck Observatory on the summit of Mauna Kea .
