(5889) Mickiewicz is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on March 31, 1979 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).
The asteroid was named after the Polish poet and playwright Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855), who is considered the national poet of Poland and the most important representative of Polish Romanticism .
