(9617) Grahamchapman (provisional name: 1993 FA 5 ) is a main belt asteroid between Mars and Jupiter . It was discovered on March 17, 1993 by the European Southern Observatory during the Uppsala-ESO Survey of Asteroids and Comets (UESAC).

Grahamchapman was named on March 20, 2000 after the actor Graham Chapman ; it is the first of a total of six asteroids that bear the names of the members of the comedian troupe Monty Python , the others are (9618) Johncleese , (9619) Terrygilliam , (9620) Ericidle , (9621) Michaelpalin and (9622) Terryjones .

In early 2006, observations at the Ondřejov NEO photometric program found that Grahamchapman was orbited by a moon . The moon is about a quarter the size of Grahamchapman and the period is about 19 hours. The study also shows that Grahamchapman has a rotation period of 2.3 hours and is roughly spherical .
